instructions

February 10th, 2016 update: This 2016 production of the Daedalus 5.0 was delivered today. Pin # 49 is now marked 'DAEDALUS V5.0'. All preorders and new orders now shipping.

December 23rd, 2015 update: Preorder, restock expected late January 2016. Latest revision that utilizes a new core. PCBs may change to white color (previously they were red color), and the edge connector will be marked with 'NeoStore and/or 'new core' using the same process as seen here.

Most advanced MVS to AES converter available, new in original retail packaging. No more plug and pray! The Daedalus has the highest success rate and usually works at 100% upon initial insertion. These will all be the latest version 4's. Of those sold in the past, only two were v4's. All boards were made in red (see last pic above), which has not been seen since the first 5 converters.

The ultimate in compatibility: Every Neo-Geo revision as well as all power supplies were tested with all original SNK games and confirmed to work with the Daedalus. Metal Slug X works on all neo revisions, and even the 150 and 161 multigame carts work!

Confirmed to work with NG:DEV.TEAM games: GUNLORD, Neo XYX, Razion (make sure these games are updated to their final versions), and also Knights Chance by Neobitz.

  • No need to add a new power supply.
  • No scaling issues.
  • Side loading.
  • Made in Canada.
What is the switch at the bottom of my Daedalus for?
The switch is used for 9v-12v newer Neo Geo AES units and Metal Slug X. If you have a newer neo system that uses a 9v or higher power supply, try playing MSX as is. If you get a black screen then you will need to use the switch which will enable the MSX fix. The switch isn't required for first gen or 5v systems. The switch should also be turned off after you've used it for MSX as this fix is for that one title only.

5 of 5 Great converter, even plays my Kraut Buster August 30, 2021
Reviewer: Joerazzzz from Seattle, WA
I bought the defective unit, took it apart first thing and fixed a few solder blobs and some trace damage and within the hour had all of my MVS carts running perfectly! Plays my NG-DEV games without any issues and I was worried about the sideways MVS slot but it is such a strong fit that I have nothing to worry about.

With that, I insert the MVS into the converter outside of the system, and apply strong even pressure in a rocking manner to seat the carts correctly.

Removal is the same. Remove the converter from the system and use a gentle rocking and pulling motion to separate the two. aside for the pins being new and tight I love this thing! best purchase for my Neo Geo AES by far!!!

3 of 5 Works perfectly! When it works. November 10, 2015
Reviewer: Stnank from NY United States
As of writing, I only have access to my Puzzle Bobble MVS cart. Better than nothing. Overall, the thing works perfectly. No graphical/ scaling issues, perfect sound ect.

EDIT: After 8 months of use, the thing still works. I have quite a few MVS games now, and they all do work perfectly. However, after repeated use, the contacts must be bending, because now every other time I use it, I get error messages, glitch screens, and sometimes when it seems to be working, it'll reset itself half way through a game. Very frustrating while playing the last stage of Metal Slug 3.

I found a workaround involving putting a Dreamcast game's case underneath the MVS cart to relieve the stress. And it works. But this thing shoulda been top-loaded.

Other than this, it works.

5 of 5 Daedalus, BEST CONVERTER EVER MADE! May 1, 2015
Reviewer: Fakk2 from Palmdale, CA United States
I cannt fit a proper review in 1000 characters, so if anyone wants to know how good this converter is, PM me.

All people need to know, is that this converter plays near everything perfectly, including ALL the NGDevTeam games. I own them ALL and it plays them ALL. Not sure where the NeoStore heard that "it's not compatible with GunLord", because it is, and all other games except a few.

Nearly flawless converter! Best ever made.

4 of 5 Good, but has a few flaws June 23, 2014
Reviewer: TheRetromancer
I bought this for the sole reason of its stated compatibility with the 161-in-1 Multicart.

Pros:

- No scaling or sound issues at all.  Games look fantastic running my AES through an X-RGB Mini.  Buying this converter and the 161-in-1 cart is still $100 cheaper than paying for NeoStore's AES conversion of the 161.

Cons:

- $400?  REALLY?  It's a great piece of hardware tech, but that's just greedy.

- Draws more power from the AES system.

- Holds carts vertically means that it stresses AES cart slots.  It's very easy to get graphical glitches when the contacts don't make perfect contact.  Should have been a vertical insertion.

- The MSX switch is inaccessible when inserted.  There is also no documentation about said switch, and which position is on or off.

- NOT compatible with the homebrew game Gunlord.

Overall, I think that the issues are irritating but comparatively minor, and that the Daedalus is the best MVS to AES converter we can find

5 of 5 You Get A Quality MVS Converter For Your Money February 18, 2014
Reviewer: Tom Lee from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire United Kingdom
I would have been reluctant to pay for this converter 6 months ago and instead purchased Neo Team's Super MVS Converter 2, "Magic Key version" from a private seller.  Sadly it stopped working 5 1/2 months into its use.  With no chance of a replacement from the seller I decided to bite the bullet and pay the little bit extra for a Daedalus.  5 days into use of this fantastic converter and I'm very happy with the results! The adapter holds the MVS cart firmly and has good build quality.  Also the side load design means that I can still fit my Home Cart system including Daedalus in my entertainment center shelving!  What also seems interesting is that colours on the MVS games seem to be much richer and deeper through the Daedalus than the Magic Key (Not sure why this is, but they seemed washed out on games like KOF 2002 and Metal Slug using the MK).

So, although the Daedalus comes at a higher price, this is the last and only converter I think I'll ever need!
